Dubai: Dubai Police once again showcased their rapid response and compassionate care, successfully reuniting a 6-year-old child of determination with his family in less than an hour after he was reported missing.

Brigadier Omar Moussa Ashour, Acting Director of Naif Police Station, advised parents about the importance of keeping a close eye on young children, especially in busy public areas. “Children rely on us entirely for their safety. It is essential for parents to teach their kids what to do if they ever get lost — such as seeking help from police officers or security personnel,” he added.

What happened

Naif Police Station received a report from the Command and Control Center about a young child found alone and visibly distressed near Naif Market. “He was crying and clearly frightened,” Brig. Ashour recalled. “Our patrols responded immediately. They brought him safely to the station, where the Victim Support Section comforted him while we worked quickly to locate his family.”

Thanks to seamless coordination, officers were able to track down the boy’s father in less than an hour. The father was working in a nearby shop located in the same building where the family resides. The child, intending to accompany his mother to visit his father, had wandered off on his own due to a misunderstanding.

Formal commitment

To prevent such incidents in the future, police asked the father to sign a formal commitment, reaffirming the family’s responsibility for their child’s safety. “We want to ensure this never happens again,” Brig. Ashour said, adding that every child deserves to feel safe and protected.

He also emphasised the vital role families play in safeguarding their children, urging parents to stay vigilant and maintain clear communication. “Parental awareness is the first line of defence against these situations,” he added.
