Lily Jamal’s honesty praised as a shining example of integrity and community values
Dubai: An 8-year-old Lily Jamal Ramadan, an Egyptian expat, was honoured by Dubai Police after she returned Dh17,000 in cash she discovered at a shopping mall cinema to Al Rashidiya Police Station.
Major General Expert Khalil Ibrahim Al Mansoori, Assistant Commander for Criminal Investigation, recognised Lily for her commendable honesty, presenting her with a certificate of appreciation in front of her family. He said that such actions reflect the values that should be nurtured in young people, as they contribute to building a more trustworthy and responsible society.
Bundle of money
The incident occurred when Lily and her parents were at a shopping mall. While waiting on a bench near the cinema ticket counter, she noticed a bundle of money on the seat. Without hesitation, she handed it to her father, who was astonished by the amount. The family immediately went to Al Rashidiya Police Station to report and return the money.
Rightful owner
Major General Saeed Hamad Al Malik, Director of Al Rashidiya Police Station, revealed that the rightful owner of the cash was coincidentally at the station reporting it missing and was overwhelmed to have the full amount returned.
Police stressed the importance of highlighting such positive examples to inspire honesty and ethical behaviour in others.
Recognising Lily’s action, they said, reinforces community values and strengthens trust between the public and the police.
