Dubai: The Dubai Municipality has intensified its efforts to make the city rodent-free.

The municipality's Pest Control Section deployed additional field personnel to implement an integrated rodent control plan which involves immediate precautionary measures in urban areas

Apart from conducting rodent control operations, authorities will take a strong note of violations related to storage and cleanliness.

Hesham Abdul Rahman Al Yahya, Head of the Pest Control Section, said they carried out control operations in 3,492 sites in May and 5,198 sites in June.

In cases involving restaurants and food establishments, the Pest Control Section is coordinating with the Food Control Department so as to ensure proper measures are undertaken to make these establishments pest free. The Pest Control Section is also consulting other departments like the Waste Management, Assets Management, Buildings and Public Parks to ensure the programme's success.

Abandoned buildings

Inspectors will also look into abandoned buildings in the areas of Muhaisna, Karama, Satwa, Al Ras and Al Quoz. In later stages of the programme, other areas will be covered.

"Precautionary measures are being taken by developing an emergency action plan, increasing field staff and intensifying control operations so as to prevent any chance of spread of rodents along with continued education programmes for pest control and prevention" Al Yahya said.
