Meet on Green Buildings to be held next week

Tricolour Initiatives and CERT Technology Park are jointly organising the Green Building Conference from March 30 and 31 in Dubai.

The event is being held under the patronage of Sheikh Nahyan Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research.

This is the first conference of its kind the Middle East and will launch the concept of Green Buildings in the UAE and the region.

A Green Building incorporates several 'green' features - efficient use of water, energy efficient and eco-friendly equipment, use of renewable energy, use of recycled or recyclable material, effective use of landscapes, effective control and building management systems and Indoor air quality for safety and comfort.

When these methods are used correctly, some building operators may experience utilities savings in excess of 30 per cent.

Dr Tayeb Kamali, managing director of the Centre of Excellence for Applied Research and Training (CERT), said "We are continuing our development and encouragement of new technologies and knowledge that will benefit the UAE both economically and environmentally. The Green Building is an excellent opportunity for us to introduce leading knowledge and practices, and demonstrate our commitment to our precious natural resources and our environment."

Sougata Nandi, senior vice-president of Tricolour, stated; "Tricolour is constantly looking at new ways and means of generating awareness on energy conservation in the UAE, and the Green Building Conference is one of the several upcoming initiatives of Tricolour."

Representatives from all sectors of government, education, business and industry will benefit from the presentations during the conference. A focused exposition on the sidelines of the conference will showcase energy efficient products and control systems.
