Kashif spurs CSS to exciting win over NMC
Kashif Ahmed sparkled again in Consolidated Shipping Services win over New Medical Centre in the Emirates Cup tournament played under the Dubai Cricket Council and sponsored by Emirates Airlines.
New Medical Centre won the toss and put Consolidated Shipping into bat, a move which paid rich dividends as medium pacer Zoysa struck two quick blows to send back opener Omer Khan and one drop Syed Maqsood with the score on 14 in the fifth over.
Rowmahs and Asghar Ali then stuck around for eight overs to add 39 runs before Rowmahs was bowled by Fernando.
Sibith coming at number five played aggressive cricket while Asghar played sedately and the pair put on 69 runs for the fourth wicket.
Leg spinner Yogesh Mistry then struck two vital blows getting rid of both of them in the same over.
Sibith struck 38 (35b, 3x6, 3x4) while Asghar made 39 (64b). Kashif Ahmed and Sameer Nayak continued the good work, first by playing themselves in and then scoring freely to add 39 runs. Kashif remained unbeaten with a knock of 65 (93b, 3x4) to see Consolidated to a fighting total of 242 runs.
Replying New Medical Centre lost Kaif Ghaury early in the fifth over.
Saman (32) and Kanchan Cooray (35), however fought back defiantly to put on 66 runs for the second wicket.
Mohammed Naseem then struck a double blow sending back Saman and Vijay Mehra in quick succession while Kanchan Cooray was run out by Sibith. Skipper Sandeep Dhuri then shouldered responsibility with Zoysa and both put on 58 runs for the sixth wicket.
Zoysa was stumped off Aqil Latif for a well made 30.
With 88 runs needed in less than 17 overs the game was still open, but a double strike by Rizwan Latif and a couple of run outs saw Dhuri stranded with an unbeaten 63 while New Medical fell short by 18 runs with 11 balls still left to go.
