Dubai: The GMC Hospital Ajman team have won the Medical Simulation Olympics, a first of its kind in the region and organised by the Gulf Medical University (GMU).

MedSim Olympics 2015 was held on April 9 as part of the first Annual Conference on Recent Trends in Clinical Skills and Medical Simulation organised by the Centre for Advanced Simulation (Cash) in Healthcare GMU.

The preliminaries of the MedSim Olympics were held on April 4. The National Ambulance Abu Dhabi, Al Mafraq Hospital Abu Dhabi and GMC Hospital Ajman were the three teams who entered the finals. Mafraq Hospital and National Ambulance won silver and bronze medals respectively.

The conference was attended by more than 200 delegates from all over the country.

Dr Yousuf Al Sarkal, assistant undersecretary, Hospital Affairs, Ministry of Health, was the chief guest and Thumbay Moideen, Founder President Board of Governors GMU, was the guest of honour.

The finals were judged by Dr Tim Kristensen, from Denmark; Prof Guillaume Alinier, from Qatar; Professor Robert O’Brien, from Australia; Carrie Hamilton, from the United Kingdom; Dr Ayad Al Moslih, from Sharjah University; and Prof Manda Venkatramana, GMU Ajman. Prof.

Gita Ashok Raj, Provost GMU, gave away the prizes and trophies to the winners.

Zahra Al Hilali, Territory Director, Middle East & North Africa at American Heart Association who attended the conference and witnessed the Olympics, said that she was highly impressed with the event and wished more such events are organised in the country.

MedSim Olympics is an excellent idea and having set the precedent, Cash can become the leaders in this field and hold many such scientific events in the region, Zahra said.

All the visiting dignitaries later attended the first External Advisory Board Meeting for CASH. They formulated strategies and plans to enhance the centre to be one of the leading simulation centres in the region.
