Abu Dhabi: The UAE Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MOHRE) has revealed that the UAE workforce has witnessed a growth rate of 12.04 per cent in 2024, with more job opportunities being created and the prosperity of the labour market being reflected.

According to statistics and published by the ministry, youth constituted 51.86 per cent of the total workforce in the UAE in 2024. This reflects the country’s commitment to providing employment and training opportunities for young people, thereby fostering a generation capable of actively contributing to the development of the national economy, MOHRE said.

The statistics also revealed that companies in the labour market experienced a growth rate of 17.04 per cent, indicating increased investments and economic growth across various sectors.

Meanwhile, the labour mobility rate between companies stood at 9 per cent, reflecting the freedom of movement enjoyed by workers in the UAE. This contributes to greater labour market flexibility and ensures the prevention of forced labour.

These mobility rates are consistent with those of member states in the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).

Furthermore, women’s participation in the workforce recorded a significant increase of 20.95 per cent, underscoring the success of UAE policies in empowering women and enhancing their participation across all sectors. The data also showed a 13.23 per cent rise in the number of skilled workers, highlighting ongoing efforts to develop expertise and meet the labour market’s demand for specialised talent.

The UAE continues to strengthen its work environment by enhancing its legislative and regulatory frameworks. The government has updated labour laws to align with international standards and promote workers’ rights, including improving workplace conditions and providing incentives to boost innovation and productivity.

The ministry is also implementing advanced electronic systems to streamline administrative processes, ensuring transparency and fairness in dealings with workers and employers alike.

The total workforce in UAE reached 7,248,379 individuals in 2023, according to the World Bank’s collection of development indicators compiled from officially recognised sources.

The data on the UAE’s total workforce—including actual values, historical data, forecasts, and projections—was obtained from the World Bank in January 2025.
