Initiative brings hope and healing to inmate and her family
Dubai: Dubai Police have facilitated an emotional reunion between a female inmate and her four children, ending a long separation caused by her imprisonment and family circumstances.
The visit, organised by the General Department of Correctional and Punitive Institutions in cooperation with the Community Development Authority, was part of the ‘Inmate Happiness’ initiative.
Launched under the directives of Lt. Gen. Abdulla Khalifa Al Marri, Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Police, and overseen by Maj. Gen. Eid Muhammad Thani, Assistant Commander-in-Chief for Criminal Investigation Affairs, the programme aims to ease the emotional strain of incarceration.
Col. Jamila Al Zaabi, Director of the Women’s Prison, said the inmate had become increasingly withdrawn. When approached, she confided that she had not seen her children in years and longed to be reunited with them. After learning her story, prison officials worked with the Community Development Authority to arrange the meeting.
On the day of the visit, the inmate was told she had a visitor. As she stepped into the meeting area, she froze in shock at the sight of her children before rushing to embrace them. Tears flowed freely as they clung to one another in a moment that deeply moved everyone present.
Colonel Al Zaabi affirmed that the General Department of Correctional and Punitive Institutions remains committed to fostering social and humanitarian initiatives, including strengthening family bonds for inmates.
These efforts reflect Dubai Police’s broader strategic goal of promoting happiness within the community.
She added that such initiatives are vital to building trust between police and society, reinforcing the values of compassion and tolerance, and providing meaningful support to both inmates and their families.
The inmate expressed her heartfelt gratitude, saying she had always dreamed of seeing her children again. She and her children thanked Dubai Police for this unforgettable act of kindness and for their commitment to ensuring the well-being of inmates.
