Abu Dhabi: Abu Dhabi Police on Saturday briefed students who joined the ‘Future Pilot’ initiative on the tasks of police helicopters.

The initiative aims to promote social responsibility and strengthen the security culture among all segments of the society, especially students.

Lieutenant-Colonel Pilot Tariq Juma Al Awadi, head of Air Training Department at Abu Dhabi Police Air Wing of the Central Operations Sector, briefed the students on the tasks of air ambulances, search and rescue missions as well as on thermal imaging in aviation, rapid intervention and transporting VIPs. Students also joined officers and other employees in performing their daily work.

Lt-Col Al Awadi highlighted the mechanism for obtaining permissions to operate helicopters and accompanied students on a visit to the control tower at Al Bateen Executive Airport where they learnt about the tower’s control area and how to coordinate aircraft landing and taking off and organise their movement on the ground.

The students also visited the fire department of the airport and watched a mock drill, in which they learnt about the response time, the way of dealing with accidents, public safety procedures, and readiness of its cadres, among others.
