Ras Al Khaimah: A six-year-old Asian girl drowned on Thursday in a swimming pool of a hotel in the emirate, Ras Al Khaimah Police said.
Major Abdullah Ali Anoun Al Nuaimi, head of the city’s comprehensive police station, said the National Ambulance service rushed the girl to the nearest hospital, but she had already died.
Preliminary police investigation revealed that the girl was with her mother and younger brother when the incident happened.
As they were swimming, the mother was busy taking care of the son.
The girl sank in the pool without being noticed, police said.
Hotel visitors who spotted the girl in the water retrieved her and administered first aid before the National Ambulance team reached.
The body of the girl was handed over to her relatives for burial.
Maj Al Nuaimi called on all families and guardians to monitor their children while swimming and to make sure they are swimming only in pools allocated for children.
He also urged all hotels and resorts in the emirate to allocate safe pools for children.
