Dubai A cabbie who suffered his third heart attack days after retiring is battling for life at a city hospital since May 14 even as his medical bills mount with each passing day.
Sixty-two-year-old Pakistani Bashir Ahmad, who ferried passengers in Dubai for 20 years, was rushed to a hospital where he underwent a lifesaving emergency coronary artery bypass graft surgery (CABG).
Bashir is now on continuous veno-venous haemodialysis (CVVHD). His son Waqas Ahmad, who is a technician for Dewa, said they desperately need help as they have exhausted most of their savings to fund the treatment.
Short on funds
“The insurance firm pitched in with Dh130,000, but we are still short of the Dh202,000 needed to pay the hospital bills. My father’s only wish right now is to go back to Pakistan, but that is not possible because his visa has been cancelled and he cannot leave without paying the hospital dues,” he said.
“I lost my mother early in life. Now I am staring at the prospect of losing my father because of [a] lack of funds. I am banking on the generosity of UAE residents to help us in these testing times,” he added.
