Update: The fire at a Sharjah oil plant has been brought under control, Civil Defence said at 7.04pm on Wednesday.

No injuries were reported in the five-hour blaze.

Cooling operations have now started.

Sharjah: A massive fire broke out at an oil plant in Sharjah’s Industrial area No 10 on Wednesday afternoon.

Firefighters from Sharjah are battling the flames to prevent the fire spreading to adjacent premises.

Police cordoned off the scene of the incident to ease the work of the Civil Defence team.

Colonel Sami Khamis Al Naqbi, director general of Sharjah Civil Defence, told Gulf News the fire broke out in an oil plant at about 2.45pm.

Motorists heading towards Sharjah and Ajman reported seeing thick black plumes of smoke billowing into the sky.
