Fujairah: Two Emirati children - an 8-year-old girl and a 7-year-old boy - died in a fire that broke out in their family home in Al Tawyeen area of Fujairah, police said on Tuesday.
Fujairah Police confirmed the incident, stating that teams from the police and civil defence rushed to the scene immediately after receiving the report.
The teams managed to control the fire but were unable to save the two children. They rescued a five-year-old child who sustained serious injuries as a result of the blaze.
No immediate details about the cause of the incident have been released, but an investigation is underway to determine the circumstances surrounding the fire.
According to the Fujairah Police, a report was received at 2am today (June 25) in the Civil Defense Operations Room regarding a fire incident at a house.
As soon as patrols and civil defense vehicles arrived from the nearby Al Tawyeen center, the teams dealt with the fire by securing the house, rescuing the injured, and transferring them to Dibba Al Fujairah Hospital.
Major General Mohammed Ahmed bin Ghanem Al Kaabi, Commander-in-Chief of Fujairah Police, expressed his condolences and wished the injured family members a speedy recovery.
Brigadier Ali Obaid Al Tunaiji, Director of the Civil Defense Department in Fujairah, urged the public to follow prevention, safety, and civil protection guidelines closely. He emphasised the importance of adhering to safety instructions issued by relevant authorities with the onset of summer. This includes maintaining electrical lines, ensuring their capacity, and checking the safety of extensions, particularly due to increased electrical loads from air conditioning and refrigeration devices.
