Summer fun can turn fatal in seconds: National Ambulance sounds alarm on drowning
Abu Dhabi: As families across the UAE flock to beaches, pools, and water parks to escape the summer heat, National Ambulance is issuing a stark warning about a silent and swift danger: drowning.
In support of its “Safe Summer, Be Prepared” campaign, National Ambulance is reminding parents and caregivers that even a momentary lapse in supervision near water can lead to tragedy. “Drowning is silent and fast — it can happen in under 30 seconds,” officials warned. “But with simple precautions, it’s entirely preventable.”
To reduce the risk, National Ambulance has released essential water safety tips:
Always keep children within arm’s reach when near water.
Use proper flotation devices.
Choose swimming areas licenced and supervised by certified lifeguards.
Avoid water activities during unsafe weather conditions.
Teach children basic water safety and swimming skills from an early age.
“This summer, let’s make water safety a non-negotiable priority,” the campaign urges. “Every child deserves to play, splash, and swim safely.”
In the event of a drowning emergency:
Alert the nearest lifeguard immediately.
Then call emergency services: 999 (Police) | 997 (Civil Defense) | 996 (Coast Guard) | 998 (Ambulance)
