7 families from Kerala were returning after an Eid trip when crash killed mother-of-two
Abu Dhabi: Tragedy struck a group of Indian expat families in the UAE returning from an Eid staycation in Al Ain when one of their members was killed in an accident on Tuesday.
The deceased has been identified as Sajinabanu C, 53, a mother-of-two hailing from the south Indian state of Kerala.
Her family said she was in a car along with her husband, their younger son and a nephew when the accident took place.
“There were seven families in different cars,” said her brother-in-law.
He added that his brother, Nazeer PMK, a senior manager at a company, and his wife, Sajinabanu, a homemaker, had been long-term residents of Ajman. Their two sons were born and raised in the UAE. While the elder son is currently working as a doctor in Kerala, the younger one is pursuing his post-graduation in Dubai.
Another relative said Sajinabanu was the main organiser of the one-day staycation the family planned for Eid Al Fitr holidays.
All seven families are relatives who included children and a pregnant woman. They checked into a farmhouse in a remote area in Al Ain on Monday and were returning on Tuesday after enjoying their time together.
“The car they were travelling in met with an accident and she [Sajinabanu] was thrown out when the car flipped over after falling into a pit,” said the relative.
She was reportedly seated in the rear seat and passed away on the spot due to critical head injuries, while the others in the vehicle escaped with only minor injuries.
The police and ambulance arrived at the scene to transport the injured to the hospital, and an investigation was launched.
A social worker, who supported the family with legal procedures to repatriate the mortal remains of Sajinabanu, said all paperwork was completed by Wednesday evening.
“Her remains will be flown home to her hometown in Kozhikode tonight,” she said on Wednesday evening.
The tragedy has left the family and their accompanying relatives devastated. “They are all heartbroken. Apparently, she was the life of the party whenever they gathered, always taking the lead in family events. It’s an incredibly difficult time for them,” the social worker added.
