Abu Dhabi: UAE authorities have reminded motorists about the importance of giving way to emergency vehicles.

According to the Ministry of Interior, 325 drivers were fined in 2024 for failing to yield to ambulances, police patrols, and other emergency responders.

“When you hear sirens or see flashing lights, it’s not just a warning—it’s a call to action,” the Ministry stated. “Yielding to emergency vehicles isn’t just a legal requirement; it’s a matter of road safety and, most importantly, saving lives.”

Serious consequences

The Ministry also made it clear that emergency responders depend on unimpeded roadways to reach those in need as quickly as possible. Delays can have serious consequences, putting lives at risk.

What the law states

Drivers who fail to give way to emergency vehicles face serious penalties, including a fine of Dh 3,000, a 30-day vehicle impoundment, and 6 traffic points. This applies to all road users—whether the emergency vehicle is behind, beside, or approaching from another lane.
