Dubai: Lara Hazem Al Mawadeh, the grade 12 student who received the highest level grade in the whole country, beating a total of 37,011 students, gave a glimpse of her daily studying routine during the examination period.

The 17-year-old Jordanian national spoke to Gulf News during the award ceremony held yesterday under the patronage of His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai to honor grade 12 top students for the academic year 2012/2013.

“I was able to achieve this rank because I was determined and worked hard by keeping up with all the material learned at home and also by revising daily for a period of three hours” said Lara.

As for advice for students wanting to exceed in the scientific stream Lara stated that solving as many examples as possible is a must. “What I used to do was solve all the examples in scientific related subjects, in my opinion it is vital for anyone studying in the scientific stream.”

According to the high school topper being the first on the level of the country was no surprise to her or her physics instructor father and science teacher mother.

“To be honest I was expecting to be the first because I worked really hard but I was shocked when His Highness Shaikh Mohammad called me to congratulate me, I don’t even remember what he told me, that’s how shocked I was” she added.

Lara wants to study medicine but still has not decided on what specialisation she wants to major in or university.
