A new jogging track is being built along Al Mam-zar Lagoon as part of the municipality's plans to expand recreational facilities.
The new two-kilometre long track, which will be laid on the Al Mamzar Lagoon stretch near Al Mamzar Park, will be opened for jogging in February.
With the new facility in place, there will be two dedicated jogging tracks in the city. The first was built around Al Safa Park in 2002.
Engineer Mohammad Hassan Al Ali, head of the projects design section at the municipality's General Projects Department, said the project tries to provide an exclusive facility for joggers and encourage others to take up the habit.
Al Ali said the track will be built using rubberised material to absorb shock and to make it more comfortable. The track will be three metres wide and an area of 30 square metres will be marked at one end of the track for stretching The track will also have lighting so it can be used at night as well. There will be yellow markings every 50 metres.
The jogging track around Al Safa Park is 3.5-kilometres long and was also made using rubberised material.
It has special markings every 100 metres.
