Friend fined for damaging cars belonging to an Emirati and his sister
Dubai: Two brothers have been acquitted of vandalism, while their friend has been fined of Dh10,000, for wrecking two cars, following an alleged stalking incident in the Mall of the Emirates.
The Dubai Court of First Instance cleared the Emirati brothers, 20-year-old H.D. and 19-year-old M.D. for lack of evidence.
Pronouncing yesterday's judgement, Presiding Judge Hamad Abdul Latif Abdul Jawad fined in absentia 23-year-old Emirati A.A. Dh10,000 after he was found guilty of vandalism.
"We destroyed the cars? No, that's absolutely untrue and didn't happen," H.D. said, before pleading not guilty in court earlier this month. M.D. also pleaded innocent.
Vandalism
Prosecutors said the brothers and A.A. committed acts of vandalism and damaged two cars.
According to the charge sheet, the trio wrecked two cars belonging to 23-year-old Emirati employee, N.S., and his sister. Records said the cars were written off.
N.S. testified that some friends informed him after the incident that the defendants attacked his car because they thought he had harassed the suspect's sisters at the Mall of the Emirates.
N.S. testified that the brothers had phoned to ask where he was. "I spotted four cars parked facing in front of our house… then I saw H.D., M.D. and A.A. running toward me with a group of men.
"They carried sticks and hard objects. I heard noises of glass being smashed. Later, I discovered that my car had been wrecked. The damages were worth Dh6,690. The suspects also caused Dh7,500 worth of damages to my sister's vehicle," the employee said.
The primary judgment is still subject to appeal within 15 days.
