Three women sentenced to year in jail for prostitution

Dubai: A court has sentenced three prostitutes to one year in prison after an undercover policeman exposed them by posing as a client.

The Dubai Court of First Instance said the three Uzbek women will be deported after serving their jail terms.

The Dubai Public Prosecution charged the three women, identified as N.A., Z.T. and V.B., with working in the sex industry and charged a 37-year-old Indian driver, C.B., with bringing customers for the women and running a brothel.

The court dismissed the charges pressed against C.B. because they fell beyond its jurisdiction.

The court referred him to the Public Prosecution which will refer him to the judicial authority concerned.

Sting operation

An officer of the Umm Al Quwain police told the court earlier that the undercover policeman posed as a client and paid Dh1,500 to the Uzbeks in a sting operation to apprehend them and the 37-year-old.

One of the women was caught in a bedroom of a chalet in Umm Al Quwain and the others were arrested in another room.

The officer confirmed to the judge that the policeman "was working on an undercover mission and did not go on his own to the chalet to have sex with the women".

The defendants had earlier pleaded innocent against their charges. The initial verdict is still subject to appeal.
