Three people arrested for heroin trafficking
Dubai: Three people suspected in separate cases of carrying more than four kilogrammes of heroin in their stomachs, have been arrested.
Dubai Police's Narcotics Combating Department seized 314 capsules of heroin, which weighed four and a half kilogrammes. The capsules were found hidden in the stomachs of the three suspects, two Africans and one Pakistani.
The department had received a tip-off that the suspects were trying to smuggle the heroin capsules in their stomachs.
The Pakistani was arrested last week while he was entering the country through Dubai International Airport. The second person was arrested while he was trying to leave the country, while the third was arrested at a hotel he was staying at a day before leaving the country.
Warning
The arrested were referred to a government hospital to remove the capsules from their bodies. The process will take two to five days under the supervision of the hospital staff and police.
The three have been referred to the Public Prosecution on the charges of trafficking heroin.
Lieutenant Colonel Yousuf Al Adidi, acting director of the department, said such arrests are a firm message to drug dealers.
