A thief who monitored houses during the weekend and managed to rob one was arrested along with an accomplice
Dubai: A thief who monitored houses during the weekend and managed to rob one was arrested along with an accomplice, shortly after committing his first crime, Dubai Police said.
The 35-year-old Asian man was doing a recce of houses in Muhaisnah during the first weekend in December when an empty house caught his attention, according to Brigadier Khalil Ebrahim Al Mansouri, Director of Dubai Police's Criminal Investigation Department (CID). When dusk set in, the thief realised that the house was empty of occupants since no lights had been turned on.
"The thief, identified as N.M, broke in through the back door and stole jewellery worth Dh180,000 as well as expensive watches and some electronics," said Lieutenant Colonel Ahmad Al Merri, Director of CID's Criminal Investigation Section. After the home owner returned, he alerted the police. Within 48 hours of receiving the report, police received information that N.M., along with another man identified as A.A., were trying to sell small pieces of gold jewellery in Hor Al Anz.
On monitoring a room which the duo had rented in the area, a police team saw the duo heading for the Gold Souq to have the stolen items evaluated. The two were arrested.
