Gang of masked men assault Sharjah officer with swords and other sharp objects
Sharjah: Sharjah Police are hunting for a group of masked men after the group, using swords and sticks fitted with nails, attacked a police officer and his five friends, Gulf News has learnt.
The officer received serious physical damage to his skull, said doctors, who said the head injury is consistent with being struck with a blunt or sharp instrument.
The attack happened in the early hours Thursday while the officer was sitting with his friends chatting in Al Nekhelat area, said an official at Sharjah Police.
The 26-year-old police officer sustained serious head wounds as a result of the attack that happened around 5am.
His five acquaintances sustained minor injuries.
Police ambulance transferred the injured men to Al Kuwaiti hospital where they received treatment and were later discharged.
The police officer was transferred to Al Qasimi hospital and placed in the intensive care unit as he sustained serious head injuries.
Dr Satish Krishnan, senior neurological surgeon at Al Qasimi Hospital, told Gulf News that they received the case around 6am and surgery was performed. .
Dr Krishnan said “his condition is critical. There is a lot of damage to his skull and the brain as the brain came out.”
There was a big hole made in his skull which shows signs that the man was attacked with a sharp tool.
.He continues to remain unconscious.
The man will likely need follow-up surgery to rejoin fractured pieces of his skull, Dr Krishnan added
