Settle disputes in family amicably, urges Dubai police officer

Dubai: A special department has been set up by Dubai Police to deal with family disputes and juvenile delinquency cases before they reach public prosecution or the courts.

More than 400 family disputes were tackled by the department last year alone, in addition to juveniles' cases which dealt with children in conflict with their parents, said Lieutenant Colonel Arif Baqer, Acting Director of Family Security Department.

The cases received included fights among couples, attacks, disputes between parents and their children and child custody battles.

Procedure

He said the department also received 17 cases of juveniles which included irreverance towards parents, beating among juveniles and cases of swearing.

He said the department receives the cases through family security sections located at police stations. The duty officer at the station receives the case and refers it to the family security section of the station to find suitable solutions before the dispute reaches to the courts.

"Family security department looks into psychological and behavioural issues of juveniles and provides them with psychological support. The department also analyses the cases at police stations to reach best solutions to solve family disputes in addition to rehabilitation," he said.
