Dubai: The Security Industry Regulatory Agency has categorised the top six crimes carried out in Dubai, with theft being the most common.
The main crimes committed against individuals are:
1. Theft
2. Forced robbery
3. Domestic burglary
4. Fraud
5. Sexual assault and abuse
6. Criminal damages
However, these types of crimes should not alarm residents as authorities have recently announced that the rate of crimes have dropped by 15 per cent in Dubai during the last year.
Maj Gen Khalil Ebrahim Al Mansouri, Assistant Commander-in-Chief for the Criminal Investigation Affairs of Dubai Police, said there was a 8.4 per cent increase in drug operations carried out by the Anti-Narcotic Department.
A total of 1,742 cases were recorded last year compared to 1,607 cases in 2016, with 2,553 drug suspects arrested in 2017, an increase from 2,121 in 2016.
Residents can report crimes to Dubai Police by either visiting the police website, using the police app, contacting the call centre on 901 or registering the complaint at any police station.
