Dubai: Reporting a crime has now become significantly easier, thanks to Dubai Police’s updated app.

Earlier this week, police officials participating at the Dubai International Government Achievements Exhibition (DIGAE) confirmed that its service – the Dubai Police Eye – has been revamped.

What does the new service include?

With the Dubai Police Eye service, residents can now file online complaints from across nine different categories: disturbances, alcohol/drugs, suspicious vehicle, suspicious sale, gambling, vandalism, prostitution, begging and miscellaneous.

Gulf News had earlier reported that the app is constantly updated year-round with new services and features.  “We aim to increase public satisfaction and provide mobile services that will make people’s lives easier and save their time,” said Colonel Khalid Nasser Al Razouqi, General Director of Smart Services at Dubai Police.

The app is now available on both androids and iPhones, allowing users to attach videos, photos and voice messages when reporting crime, and users have the option of keeping their identity anonymous.

The app can be used in six different languages, including Arabic, English, Chinese, French, German and Russian.

However, there are a number of different services now offered by police to ensure residents’ safety.

Residents can file up to nine different types of complaints on the Dubai Eye Police app.

Here is a list of some of the most useful services offered by the Dubai Police app:

Top 5 services to safeguard your safety

Home Security: Whether you live in a house or a villa, a break-in can permanently shatter your feeling of security at home. The General Department of Criminal Investigations has initiated a free security service to protect houses while residents are away on a long vacation.

Through registering on the app’s home security section, the premises will be secure with police patrols until residents return from their holiday.

Report Traffic Accidents: Minor traffic accidents can be reported via the app, allowing drivers to receive the police report for the accident without the need to call police, or even go to the police station. The traffic report can then be presented to insurance companies.

Search Found Item: Lost your mobile phone in a taxi or left your laptop at a coffee shop? If you lose any personal items, you can now use the app to search whether they have been declared to the Lost and Found Department at Dubai Police.

Bounced cheques: There are two conditions to reporting a bad cheque: Firstly, it should be issued within Dubai and secondly, the validity period of the cheque to be cashed should not be expired.

Tourist Security: You don’t have to be a resident to use the police app. Whether you or your family members are in the emirate and want to report any type of complaint, reports can be made with your smart phone by simply entering your contact details, regardless if it’s a UAE-based phone number or not.
