Sharjah: Sharjah Police Monday arrested a five-member gang who stole dozens of copper cables and wires from warehouses in the industrial area.

A senior police official told Gulf News that the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) at Sharjah Police initially received a tip-off about a number of unknown men who broke into a warehouse in Industrial Area 13, and stole a large sum of copper cables and wires.

“Police then set up a team to investigate the incident, and found that the warehouse was located in an isolated area and was not equipped with a security guard," said the police official.

During the investigation, police further discovered that the thieves broke down the main gate of the warehouse by using a sharp metal object, and used a stolen vehicle in order to transport the stolen goods away from the crime scene.

The CID team then found that some of the suspects, all of Pakistani origin, were living in Al Muwaileh area.

Upon their arrest, the suspects confessed that they carried out the theft, and also explained that they had previously stolen fro mother warehouses and sold the goods to a scrap shop in Ajman.

In cooperation with Ajman Police, the stolen goods were then seized and a total of five men were subsequently arrested.
