Dubai: A manager groped a life coach as she was walking with her friend on a street, heard a court on Thursday.

The 44-year-old Filipina life coach came out of a typing centre accompanied by her friend in Karama in March. A few steps outside the centre, the Filipina and her friend were engaged in a conversation when a 45-year-old Indian manager came in front of them.

The man allegedly took advantage of the fact that the life coach was busy chatting with her friend when he took her by surprise and groped her.

The woman yelled at him for the indecent act and called the police on the spot and the 45-year-old Indian was taken into custody.

Prosecutors accused the suspect of groping the life coach in the street.

The suspect pleaded not guilty when he appeared before the Dubai Court of First Instance on Thursday.

The suspect’s lawyer asked presiding judge Urfan Omar to adjourn the case until he reviews the case file.

The Filipina’s lawyer has lodged a civil lawsuit against the suspect and is seeking Dh21,000 in temporary compensation for her. The woman complainant told prosecutors that the incident happened around 1.40pm outside a typing centre. “My friend and I had just left the centre and while walking, the suspect came from the front and groped me. He took me by surprise. I got angry and scolded him,” she testified to prosecutors.

A policeman told prosecutors that the woman immediately reported the matter to the police.

Presiding judge Omar adjourned the hearing until May 17.
