Sharjah An Asian man, who allegedly installed electronic equipment capable of making overseas calls at the cost of local calls, was arrested by the Sharjah Police Monday on charges of causing losses to a local telecommunication operator.

"Using such devices, the international calls were registered as local calls that caused telecommunication company du losses worth millions of dirhams," said an official at the Criminal and Investigation Department (CID) at Sharjah Police.

Police said the suspect, A.Gh., Pakistani, was transferring international calls bypassing the communication server through a banned device, which was illegally brought into the country. Police found a large telecommunication device at his rented house in Sharjah that had slots to fit mobile SIM cards.

The suspect will be referred to the Sharjah Public Prosecution.
