Victim, riding an electric scooter, was struck by a vehicle near a pedestrian crossing
Dubai: A Dubai court has fined a Gulf national Dh10,000 and ordered him to pay Dh50,000 in blood money to the family of an Asian man who was killed in a traffic accident earlier this year.
The incident occurred in March on Al Wasl Road, when the victim, riding an electric scooter, was struck by a vehicle near a pedestrian crossing.
According to police records, officers responding to the scene found the man critically injured; he later died on site from his wounds.
During questioning, the driver said the victim had suddenly crossed the road outside the designated pedestrian area, leaving him unable to avoid the collision.
But investigators determined that responsibility was shared. A traffic diagram showed the driver had committed multiple violations, including running a red light, failing to exercise due caution, and not reducing speed while approaching a pedestrian crossing. These actions directly led to the fatal impact, the court found.
The report also noted that the victim bore partial responsibility for the accident. He had ridden his scooter across the pedestrian lines instead of dismounting and walking, and had failed to ensure the road was clear before crossing.
In its judgment, the court said the case reflected a breach of the duty of caution and that negligence, whether by act or omission, constituted grounds for criminal liability.
