Dubai: A farmer has been accused of kidnapping a 12-year-old boy while he was heading to a mosque and raping him in his bedroom at knifepoint.

The 37-year-old Bangladeshi farmer, H.M., was said to have stopped the Pakistani boy, who was on his way to pray and offered to sell him toys.

When the boy refused to go with H.M. to his place, according to prosecution records, the suspect pulled him to his nearby room where he raped him at knifepoint on February 25.

Senior Chief Prosecutor Yousuf Foulaz, Head of Deira Prosecution, has asked for the farmer to be given the death penalty.

The defendant did not enter a plea when he appeared before the Dubai Court of First Instance.

Presiding Judge Mohammad Jamal said the court will appoint a lawyer to defend the suspect when it reconvenes on July 2.

The suspect was charged with kidnapping and raping a minor at knifepoint.

The boy testified that the suspect forced him to walk with him to his room while he was heading to the mosque.

“I refused to go with him and see the toys because I did not want to buy them. He pulled me inside against my will… he threatened me with a knife. He locked the door from inside. He abused me and went to the washroom… in the meantime I dressed and ran away after I opened the door. He put the knife in my face and threatened to kill me. I ran towards my mother and told her what happened… then she called my father and he came home. My father took me to the police station and I told them what happened,” the boy was cited as saying to prosecutors.

Dubai Police’s forensic examiner confirmed that the boy had been raped. The DNA traces matched with those of the suspect.

The trial continues.
