Expatriate jailed for life in Fujairah for drug and immigration offences

Fujairah: The Fujairah Appeal Court on Tuesday handed out a life term to an Iranian man convicted of a string of drug and immigration offences.

A.B., 31, was arrested by members of Fujairah's Anti-Drugs Unit after a tip-off by an undisclosed source. The informer told police of his illegal activities and gave them his residence address in Dibba Al Fujairah.

After obtaining an arrest warrant from Fujairah's Public Prosecution, police detained the suspect at a police check point and, after a search of his car, six kilos of drug were discovered.

The suspect admitted to police the charges of entering the country illegally, but he denied importing and possession the drugs. He was also subjected to a urine test, which revealed he consumed the illegal substance.

A.B. was acquitted by Fujairah's Criminal Court on charge of importing the drugs, but was convicted of drug possession and jailed for ten years and he received a further four years for drug consumption.

Both the suspect and the Public Prosecution appealed the court decision and the Appeal Court crushed the acquittal verdict for importing the drugs and handed out a life sentence to be followed by deportation.
