Dubai: Dubai police are on the hunt for a football fan, who hit the referee using a mobile phone charger during the top-of-the-table Etisalat Pro-League match between Al Ahli and Al Ain on Saturday night.
Major General Khamis Matter Al Mazeina denounced the attack on the referee saying that the criminal and Investigation department of Dubai police is searching for the man who hit the referee.
“Such behaviours are not part of the UAE society, and that whoever behaves in this way will be referred to the public prosecutor and to the court,” said Major General Al Mazeina.
During the game one of the fans used a old mobile battery charger in order to hit the referee, Mohammad Al Jalaf Al Muhairi.
Al Muhairi was treated for a cut in his head that happened after he was hit by a big battery that was used in old big mobiles.
“Such behaviours are not accepted in our society as all games always go smoothly with high sport spirit,” said Major General Al Mazeina.
The battery was thrown from the Al Ahli supporters’ section of the ground as the game at Rashid Stadium in Dubai entered extra time when Al Muhairi had decided against awarding a penalty to the hosts Al Ahli.
“The Criminal Investigations Department has formed an investigation team to find the attacker and bring him to justice,” said Major General Al Mazeina.
