Dubai: Dubai Police say they arrested a drug smuggler at Dubai International Airport attempting to bring heroin into the UAE under bandages on his leg.
The suspect (M.M.) was allegedly trying to smuggle the heroin from Faisalabad, Pakistan, to Bangkok.
An official from the General Department for Combating Narcotics at Dubai Police grew suspicious of M.M.'s nervous behaviour and asked him to hand in his only bag to be searched.
When nothing was found in the suspect's bag, police searched the suspect personally and allegedly found 3.240 kilograms of heroin hidden in two plastic bags under two bandages attached to his leg.
Public's cooperation
Police said the suspect confessed to the smuggling attempt, but said he didn't know the kind of drugs he was carrying and that he had received a package from a friend who promised him 30,000 Pakistani rupees if it was delivered to a friend in Bangkok.
An official from the General Department for Combating Narcotics at Dubai police urged the public to contact the authorities to report any attempts to smuggle, traffic or possess drugs.
He said the department had benefited greatly from the public's response and co-operation recently.
