Couple denies having sex on Dubai beach, appeals conviction

Dubai: The British couple, sentenced to three months in jail for indulging in sexual activity in public, have pleaded not guilty when they appeared before the Appeal Court on Tuesday.

The 34-year-old British male visitor, V.A., and his 36-year-old compatriot female, M.P., denied having consensual sex on Jumeirah beach and pleaded not guilty to committing public indecency when they appeared before Presiding Judge Mohammad Abdul Aziz Hafez of the Dubai Appeal's Court. They confessed to having liquor.

Judge Hafez extended their bail until the pronouncement of the verdict on November 25.

The Britons submitted their written defences to court.

The Dubai Court of Misdemeanours earlier sentenced V.A. and M.P. to three months in jail followed by deportation after they were found guilty of involving in sexual activity in public and committing public indecency.

Their lawyer Hasan Mattar told Gulf News that the judge approved to bail them around 1 pm.

The Public Prosecution charged them with involving in sexual activity on the beach, indecently gesturing in public and consuming liquor.
