Ras Al Khaimah: A six-year-old Pakistani boy died yesterday when a speeding car ran over him on Al Faisal Street as he was crossing the road with his parents.

The boy, Masoud Shah, was still alive after being hit by the car, but passed away a few hours later at the intensive care unit (ICU) of Saqr Hospital, a senior officer at the Traffic and Licensing Department said.

The officer said the boy was accompanied by his parents as he crossed Al Faisal Street. The speeding Pakistani driver, identified as K.J. said he did not see the boy and tried his best to stop his car, but could not and ran him down.

The parents were left in shock and cried for help on the street.

Police medics examined the victim and found he was still alive, but had sustained serious multiple injuries.

The boy was admitted to the hospital where a medical team was assigned to look after him. The boy underwent several operations, but did not survive, the police said.

The Public Prosecutor examined the scene of the accident and interviewed the parents, the driver and other eyewitnesses.

The Pakistani driver has been detained and the boy's body has been released to the parents for burial.
