Dubai: Dubai Police auctioned more than 2,200 quad bikes, which were confiscated.

The bikes, which were confiscated as part of various traffic campaigns organised by the traffic department, were sold for Dh1,220,000.

Brigadier Mohammad Saif Al Zafein, Director of Dubai Police's Traffic Department, said more than 50 people participated in the auction of the bikes, which were mostly confiscated for not being registered and causing disturbances in residential areas.

Most of the 2,266 motorbikes auctioned have been in the confiscation yard for the last three years.

The official said campaigns against unregistered bikes will continue, to provide safety to other road users.
