Abu Dhabi Police have issued a strong warning against the dangers of drug use, stressing that what may begin as mere curiosity can lead to a path of destruction. In a recent statement published on its official platforms, the force urged families to closely monitor their children’s behavior as a proactive measure to shield them from the devastating impact of drug addiction.

The warning highlighted how criminal networks are increasingly exploiting social media platforms and messaging apps to promote narcotics, using unsolicited messages containing images, videos, and voice notes that falsely claim drugs can be delivered anywhere within the country.

The police reiterated the importance of family vigilance and community cooperation in combating the spread of drugs, underlining the significant role of parents in safeguarding their children. They also appealed to those struggling with addiction to seek treatment through official channels, and not to fall prey to the misleading promises of drug dealers.

As part of its ongoing efforts to support rehabilitation, Abu Dhabi Police revealed that its “Chance for Hope” initiative received 331 treatment requests from drug users last year. The program encourages addicts to voluntarily seek help and provides a lifeline to those aiming to break free from the grip of addiction.

Lieutenant Colonel Mohammed Salim Al Ameri, Deputy Director of the Anti-Narcotics Department in Al Ain, emphasized the police’s commitment to supporting individuals who come forward for treatment through the “Chance for Hope” program. He underscored the importance of raising community awareness about the dangers of drug use and the far-reaching consequences of addiction.

Al Ameri called on families to educate themselves on how to support addicted loved ones and to become familiar with the goals and procedures of the “Chance for Hope” program. He encouraged the public to visit the Abu Dhabi Police website for more information or to contact the “Aman” service through the following channels: phone (8002626), international calls (+9718002626), SMS (2828), or the ADPolice smart app.

Encouraging addicts to seek help

Abu Dhabi Police affirmed that the “Chance for Hope” program plays a pivotal role in encouraging addicts to take the first step toward recovery. The initiative fosters community partnerships and aims to reduce drug abuse while strengthening trust and cooperation between the police and the public.

In line with the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, Abu Dhabi Police are actively participating in a series of community awareness campaigns under the theme “Share to Prevent.” These initiatives aim to combat drug misuse and trafficking by enhancing public awareness and involvement.

The police also reiterated warnings about the use of digital platforms by criminal syndicates to distribute drugs and exploit vulnerable individuals. They urged the public to remain alert and report suspicious content or activities.

Finally, the statement emphasized the vital role of the family unit in shaping societal values and preventing youth from falling into addiction. Abu Dhabi Police continue to conduct awareness lectures in schools, shopping malls, and community centers, focusing on the types of drugs, reasons for use, consequences of addiction, and strategies for prevention and recovery.
