Abu Dhabi court orders woman to pay Dh10,000 for insulting and abusing via phone and WhatsApp

Abu Dhabi: The Abu Dhabi Civil Family and Administrative Court has ordered a woman to pay Dh10,000 in compensation after she insulted another woman during a phone call and followed it with abusive messages on WhatsApp, Al Khaleej Arabic daily reported.

The behaviour had already resulted in a previous criminal case and conviction, prompting the victim to seek civil damages for the emotional and material harm she suffered.

According to the case file, the complainant filed a civil lawsuit requesting compensation for psychological, moral and financial damages, which she estimated at Dh100,000, along with court fees and expenses. She argued that the defendant’s verbal abuse and offensive messages caused her distress and negatively affected her wellbeing.

The court explained that moral damage includes harm that does not affect a person’s financial interests but impacts their dignity, reputation, emotions, or physical peace of mind. It noted that such harm may arise from pain, insult, offence to honour, or violation of an established personal right.

Based on the evidence, the court ruled in favour of the complainant and ordered the defendant to pay Dh10,000 in compensation.
