17 students hurt as school bus hits tanker in Al Ain

Last updated:

Al Ain: At least 17 students of a private school got injured when their school bus collided with a water tanker in Al Yaher District, some 25 kilometres away from downtown Al Ain.

The bus was carrying around 30 students back homes, traffic police said. The injured students sustained minor to medium injuries but all others were also shocked and terrified at the incident.

The police said the bus was travelling very fast on a service road when suddenly a tanker appeared at an intersection.

The bus driver swerved right and collided with the tanker.

Rescue

Traffic police and paramedics reached the spot instantly and shifted the injured children to hospital.

The shocked students were trapped inside the bus as the police and paramedics rescued them.

"The accident is apparent caused by excessive speed and carelessness of the bus driver," said a police official. The students have been recovering as nobody was seriously injured in the accident, he added.

A delegation of Al Ain Traffic Police Department yesterday visited the injured students at the hospital.

The delegation led by Captain Khamis Al Ka'abi, head of the public relations section, distributed flowers and sweets among the injured students and inquired about their health from the doctors and parents.
