The UAE Red Crescent Authority has distributed Braille school textbooks to blind students in different parts of the country.
The books were distributed in cooperation with the Zayed Institute for Higher Human Care and Special Needs and Palace Affairs.
Sanaa Darwish Al Katbi, Secretary-General of the UAE RCA, said, "These efforts come in compliance with the authority's devotion in providing support and aiding the blind and improving services for them. This step comes in light of the great concern President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan exerts with regard to the level of services geared towards improving the status of special needs groups and integrating them into society."
Through the RCA's printing establishment project, 1,000 textbooks and curriculum material were distributed to blind students. More than 100 students have benefited from the project.
The commission together with the project works hard to provide Braille books which are compatible with the curriculum set by the Ministry of Education.
The books are distributed free to blind students, therefore accomplishing the human and charitable goal of the project.
Mohammad Fadel Al Hamli, Secretary-General of Zayed Institute for Higher Human Care and Special Needs and Palace Affairs, said, "The project is the one of the most important projects serving the blind."
He hopes that the next stage will experience more cooperation with the RCA in terms of providing improved living conditions for people with special needs.
As part of the project's expansion plans, books, scientific, entertainment and educational brochures will be printed in Braille.
