Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan, who is a constant in the world’s wealthiest actors’ list, is not a big fan of acquiring tangibles. So, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that he doesn’t count his snazzy cars or his sea-facing mansion in Mumbai as the most treasured item in his life.
In a voice note (top) sent to Gulf News tabloid!, the 52-year-old actor, with an estimated income of more than $38 million (Dh139 million) last year, claims that it’s a gold locket around his neck that’s most dear to him.
“I am not one for possessions, but since it’s the occasion for Kalyan Jewellers, I can tell you that I have a gold locket with my parents' picture on it. I work that in my movie Raees. It’s not the most prized possession because of its goldness [weight of gold], but because I have their picture [in] it. I keep that always with me,” said Khan.
The Dilwale star was in Dubai on Thursday afternoon for a whirlwind visit where he launched a new Kalyan Jewellers store in Meena Bazaar, after which he proceeded to Kuwait.
In keeping with the occasion, the actor also let us in on what constitutes a wise investment in today’s tumultuous times.
“It’s always wise to invest in gold in any day and age as currencies around the world [are] pegged to the gold standards. And for most people in the Indian sub-continent, we love gold jewellery since we can wear it for marriages and other occasions and you end up creating wealth, too,” said Khan.
The actor, who will soon be seen playing the role of a dwarf in Zero, claims he prefers to play it safe when it comes to personal investments.
“I dont have too many new fangled ideas. Investing in gold and property is something that has been going on for time immemorial. So I believe once can continue to do so,” said Khan.
While this was his proverbial two cents on sturdy investments, he managed to give his hundreds of UAE fans a memory that’s priceless: the vision of him dancing to the song Chaiyya Chaiyya and spreading his arms wide and looking up in the sky -- a stand that is becoming synonymous with him being the perfect Bollywood lover on-screen.
