DUBAI: An Indian restaurant at Jumeirah Zabeel Saray Hotel on The Palm has come up with what may well be the UAE’s biggest thali. Amala’s Shaheenshahi Thali, which translates as the King of Kings, weighs a staggering 13 kilograms and features 35 north Indian delicacies in one giant platter.
Massive spread
Amala’s outlet manager, Mirza Abbas Ali, said the massive spread will be launched during Eid holidays and will be available until June 23.
The platter costs Dh600 but works out at Dh150 per head as it’s for four people.
Zabeel Saray’s chef de cuisine Dirham Haque, who has worked for ITC Maurya’s famous Dum Pukht restaurant in Delhi, said their thali will take guests on a culinary trip to the dining rooms of Mughals and Avadh nawabs who enriched India’s cuisine.
“It will be an unforgettable experience as we are getting dishes like Firdausi biryani and Miskin nihari which were firm favourites of 18th century Avadh Nawab Asafudallah and Zeenat Mahal, wife of the last Mughal emperor Bahadur Shah Zafar. Other delicacies include Silbatte ke shammi (slow cooked kebabs) Bharwan Aloo (stuffed tandoor cooked potatoes) and Shaed e Jaam, milk dumpling cooked in sugar syrup.
