As many as 40 teams in two separate competitions have confirmed for the Indian Association Sharjah (IAS) rolling trophy football tournament to be held on Friday.
The seven-a-side tournament for Indian teams based in the UAE is being organised by IAS as part of the Eid Al Adha celebrations at the Sharjah Club grounds.
While 20 teams will be participating for the competition for club sides, an equal number will be vying for top honours in the inter-school contest.
Last year's tournament was won by ABC Benaulim after an emphatic win over UFCC, Dubai, while Central School, Dubai will be defending their title in the schools' competition. There is no registration fees for school teams.
"We're overwhelmed by the response to this event as there are teams from Abu Dhabi, Sharjah and Dubai for the tournament," said Mr. Manoharan, the co-ordinater for the competition.
Games are scheduled to start at 8.30 am on the outfield grounds of Sharjah Club, while the finals are expected to be played later in the evening.
M.K. Muneer, a minister from the Kerala State Government is expected to grace the presentation ceremony at the end of the day.
