Cinemas to show World Cup games

Take your pick for this summer's matches

Last updated:

Good news for football fans who fancy watching the World Cup on the big screen this summer — two of the UAE's major cinema companies will be screening all the matches live.

Off to the cinemas

CineStar Cinemas will be screening the games on 20-metre-wide screens. Their locations include Mall of the Emirates, Mirdif City Centre, Deira City Centre, Ajman City Centre and Marina Mall in Abu Dhabi. Fans can purchase tickets a week ahead of the game from June 11. Tickets can be purchased online, or from the cinema ticket office, just like they do to watch movies.

Grand opening

Alternatively, World Cup fans can go to one of Grand Cinemas' venues to watch the matches. The cinemas are offering more than 4,800 seats for each game at 13 locations in the UAE.

Grand Cinemas will open its doors 30 minutes prior to each match.

The price of tickets will range from Dh35 for the early rounds to Dh100 for the final.

World Cup followers can purchase their tickets from the cinema ticketing offices starting from June 1.

Book smart

Those who wish to avoid long queues can buy their tickets online from the cinema's website or by calling 04-2328523, or by using the cinema's m-Application from their smartphones.

Grand Cinemas and CineStar Cinemas may go a step further and provide visitors with the opportunity to watch a 3-D World Cup final.

However, Reel Cinemas is yet to confirm whether it will be hosting the games as well.

With the soaring temperatures of the UAE summer, sports fans can wish for nothing more than sitting in comfortable air-conditioned theatres, with a cool beverage and a snack, and the company of family or friends.
