Abu Dhabi: World No. 7 and French Open finalist, Dominic Thiem, Australian Open semi-finalist Hyeon Chung and winner of three ATP World Tour titles, Karen Khachanov, are the latest players confirmed to play in the Mubadala World Tennis Championship (MWTC) at Zayed Sports City from December 27-29.

The trio join 14-time Grand Slam champion and recent Shanghai Masters winner Novak Djokovic, defending MWTC champion Kevin Anderson and seven-time Grand Slam winner Venus Williams.

The three-day tournament features six male and two female players.

Thiem made his debut in Abu Dhabi last year and went on to reach his first Grand Slam final at Roland Garros.

“I can’t wait to return to Abu Dhabi this year,” said Thiem. “I especially enjoyed being involved with the kids’ clinics last year, which was such a great feeling. I’m really looking forward to sharing my experiences with them again and playing in the Championship will help me get back into rhythm for the 2019 season.”

Chung will be making his debut in Abu Dhabi after reaching the Australian Open semi-finals earlier this year.

“I am absolutely thrilled to be coming to Abu Dhabi and to play against some of the biggest players in the world,” said Chung. “This will be a real test of my game and will help me immensely for the 2019 season. I look forward to an exciting tournament and meeting the wonderful people of the UAE.”

Khachanov, who won the Kremlin Cup on Sunday, will also be making his Abu Dhabi debut.

“Playing at the Mubadala World Tennis Championship is a dream come true,” said Khachanov. “I am really proud to be selected among such a world-class line-up and am looking forward to playing against some of the best players on the circuit.”
