Abu Dhabi: Blue collar workers across the UAE capital will get a chance to show off their sporting skills in a range of disciplines during the 2nd Abu Dhabi Workforce Games, an initiative by Abu Dhabi Sports Council, ZonesCorp, and the UAE Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation, Abu Dhabi Media in conjunction with DUPLAYS.

A team from DUPLAYS, the leading organiser of recreational sports activities in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, is taking sport to more than 1,700 workers in camps on Saadiyat Island and in ICAD. Participants will tested on their fitness levels before taking part in a series of competitions and the data collected from the tests will help the ministry to analyse the physical fitness of the workforce.

During the Games, which will take place every Friday from March 24 to April 28 (240) teams from the various camps will battle it out in sports such as football, cricket, volleyball, table tennis and badminton for bragging rights and bumper prizes.

“It is our goal to make sports accessible to as many people as possible across Dubai and Abu Dhabi,” Derv Rao, co-founder of DUPLAYS, said. “We feel it is our responsibility to fully support the Workforce Games whereby we can bring our expertise in events and sports leagues and let the workers get active while enjoying some healthy competition.”

Last year’s Games involved more than 1,700 people with the aim to encourage an engaged community through sports and organisers hope this year’s event will reach even more people, bringing together employees, companies and sponsors while helping to promote physical fitness and a healthier lifestyle.
