Sharjah: Noor Al Yemen Cricket Club emerged as the champions of Sir Syed T20 Cricket League defeating TNS Cricket Club at the Hamriya Grounds.

This tournament, organised on the occasion of 200th birth anniversary of educationist and reformist Sir Syed Ahmad Khan, the founder of Aligarh Muslim University, was held with Al Ghurair International Exchange as the title sponsors. Twenty four A and B division teams took part in this nearly three month long tournament.

TNS won the toss and put Noor Al Yemen into bat.

Openers Zawar Farid and Qamar Abbas put on 27 runs before Faisal Ameen picked the wicket of Abbas for 16. Ameen also trapped Farid leg before for 35.

Waseem Anwar of TNS picked the wickets of Hafeez Afridi (23) and Waqar Raja (13) quickly.

Sandeep Singh Sandy lifted the team out of trouble through a breezy century.

His unbeaten knock of 110 came off 44 balls with 14 boundaries and six sixes. Waheed Ahmad chipped in with an unbeaten 37 and together they put on an unbeaten 131 runs partnership for the sixth wicket and ensured Noor Al Yemen a total of 261 for 5 in 20 overs.

TNS began their chase very well with openers Mohammad Farook and Eshaam Mohammad putting on 65 runs. Tahir Lateef dismissed Farook for 41 while Waheed Ahmad had Mohammad caught and bowled for 38. Ahmad struck at frequent intervals to check the run flow. Faisal Ameen fought valiantly through a knock of 62 off 21 balls with eight fours and four sixes. TNT were bowled out for 236 with Ahmad returning with figures of 5 for 20.

UAE national team opener bowler Mohammad Naveed Salim, who figures 10th in ICC T20 ranking, gave away the prizes along with Imad-ul-Malik, Managing Director of Al Ghurair International Exchange. Syed Maqsood of Mir CC won the best batman award scoring 367 runs in 3 matches; Fayaz Ahmed was adjudged best bowler for bagging 10 wickets from three matches, Mohammed Waseem, who scored 314 runs, took four wickets and two catches, won the Most Valuable Player Award.
