Dubai-based swimming club Induss win 17 medals in Pune

Dubai: Dubai-based swimming club Induss returned from the Glenmark National Aquatic Championships in Pune, India, this week with 17 medals.

Tanish George Mathew, 14, won three individual golds in the 50-metre butterfly, 100-metre butterfly and 200-metre freestyle. Three team golds in the 4x100-metre freestyle, 4x200-metre freestyle and 4x100-metre medley; and two silvers in the 200-metre butterfly and 100-metre freestyle were also achieved.

Tanish broke meet records in the 50-metre butterfly (26.68) and 100-metre butterfly (58.37).

Adithi Balaji, 13, won two golds in the 50-metre and 100-metre breaststroke, and a silver in the 200-metre breaststroke.

Adithi also bettered the meet record in the 200-metre breaststroke (2:52.26).

Elsewhere, Aakash Deep Sing, 13, won two bronze in the 50-metre and 200-metre backstroke, while Shakthi Balakrishnan, 12, won gold in the 200-metre freestyle, two silvers in the 100-metre freestyle and 200-metre individual medley and a bronze in the 100-metre butterfly.

Adithi and Tanish will now represent India in the Asian Age Group Swimming Championships in Tashkent, Uzbekistan from September 9-16.

Induss are coached by S Pradeep Kumar. In total nine Dubai-based swimmers travelled to Pune. The other five in attendance were; Harsh Menon, Hriday Sundaram, Keziah John, Pranjal Pandey and Megan Kumar. They all got personal bests.
