Prague: Czech tennis player Tomas Berdych has announced that he will not compete in the Davis Cup any more in his bid to prolong his professional career.

The 32-year-old Berdych on Sunday said that he has reached an age where he can’t play without resting. The world No. 16 said he must rest and conserve energy if he wants to prolong his tennis career, reported Xinhua news agency.

He said he is happy to be part of the Czech team that won the Salad Bowl twice. From 2003 to 2013, Berdych competed in the Davis Cup for the Czech Republic without interruption. He helped the Czech team win the Davis Cup in 2012 and 2013. He played his last Davis Cup match in 2016 against Germany.

Czech Davis Cup team captain Jaroslav Navratil said that his team will play against Israel at home on April 6-7, and the team hopes to return to the World Group of the Davis Cup this year.
